Newsletter sent 9 December 2008

Dear Dancers

I am sending in this in trust that it is perhaps interesting but at least not felt to be intrusive.

In future I will not send similar mails if you do not want them and the right way to do this is to include you in my sending list if you indicate that you welcome them. You can just email, ring or tell me verbally – but the best way (so I wont forget) is to use the form here:

http://www.livingcircle.net/newsletter.html

Most of the information in this mail can be found at:

http://www.livingcircle.net/calendar

As well as information about other Norfolk Circle and Folk dance groups and events.

News

I continue to have great joy in learning and singing new songs for the dance and have a list on my site along with lyrics and translations on the Resources page – with the recent ones marked with blue •••. These include Atahualpa – a hauntingly beautiful S. American song to a simple meditative swaying dance; Drive the Cold Winter Away – a merry English Carol that I have choreographed; Pravo Rhodopsko Oro – a jaunty light-hearted song and dance from Bulgaria; Sailing to Paros, Love is and Ylayiali – Greek passion! Heaven Today? - A lilting heartful trad gospel song that I have recently choreographed. Zumbaj Zumba ba – earthy rousing simplicity. And of course – more! I am also mixing live music with recordings these days. This brings me in as a dancer which of course I enjoy also – as well as helping to communicate dance and share dances that are not otherwise accessible.

I have also choreographed a lovely dance – (if I say so myself )– to Farewell Shalabiye – a fusion of Arabic – American song and music that feels like fun but also holds a prayer in bringing these cultures together. Which brings me to simply say that in such political, environmental and financial insecurities as are apparent in the times as we are living, I feel blessed to be able to share in music and dance – whose value exceeds anything I can say – and perhaps many others will feel likewise if they become open to trying it. I have an article in the forthcoming Winter Grapevine where I do attempt to say something about this!

Movement

For those that know me from when I taught the dance in the last millennium, I have been patient with a process of coming out anew in teaching and sharing dance over the last few years. In a film about dance where Richard Gere is being tutored he is told - “Don’t begin to move until you feel the movement”. I can relate to this as going with the flow – but also resting with the fallow. Cooperation with the felt deeper currents of our life is like – ‘not fighting your self’, ‘trusting trust’, or indeed simply wisdom. But I am feeling movement to ‘come out’ with what I have to share and this mail is a part of that too.

Regular Groups

I am currently running regular groups at:

Sheringham Friends Meeting House.

This meets on 2nd and 4th Friday afternoon – 2.45 - 4.45 pm.

Jane runs the 2nd Friday and I run the 4th Friday in each Calendar month – BUT – For a pre Christmas Meet I am running Friday 19th December instead of Boxing Day.

Norwich – The White House

This meets currently fortnightly 7.30 - 9.45 and the day varies – currently it is booked to fall on Mondays or Thursdays. I was running this alternately with Kate but her family commitments have priority for the near future so I am running every meet. A list of my dates will be found below this mail or via the link given for a printable poster.
