I have started keeping a record of the dances I have danced at events, regular groups or workshops. This may be useful for those who dance with me as well as being of curiosity to visitors to the site. |

For NEWS -see also Home page or Site Revision History. For anything event related check the Calendar Page. I enjoy the process of writing, and such as I have written on the heart, the mind and the spirit can be found on my 'Brian-in-a-Moment' Spirit Blog. 'Awakening' might be the touchstone of all that I write but I wanted to begin sharing writings that particularly pertained to sharing song and dance. So I now have made a new dancing-in-the-heart blog Experiences of an unspeakable and undefinable nature cannot be captured or given through words or gained by mere attempt at understanding - we have to step into Life. But they can be acknowledged and given a culture of support. Otherwise the truth of such shared joy or heartfelt communion of life can be kept hidden as if it were a secret weakness or cause for embarrassment or persecution. There are times where it is wise to hold treasures close to our heart but there are also times to allow the truth expression. In making bridges between heart and mind, we can allow some of what is discovered in our dancing into the dance of our daily lives. It is never going to be that we all share the exact same symbols, concepts and teaching-learning languages. But we can all share a common purpose: healing or awakening. Such words are my own current terms but to step into their meaning as your own intent has nothing to do with personal assertion or aquisition. "Make me an instrument of Thy Peace". Why? Because it is the condition in which the beauty, and wonder and glory of life is self evident. |
Dance Moment #1 Whilst vainly searching for lyrics or translation for the Shepherd's Dance I came upon a very interesting short article from www.catholicculture.org titled: Christmas Music: Caroling, Folk Dancing and Yodeling. "The word carol comes from the Greek word choraulein, which is constructed from the two words choros, the dance, and aulein, to play the flute. The ancient Greeks and Romans danced in ring form. Their carols were brought in Roman times to Britain and Gaul. Even in medieval England a carol meant a ring-dance accompanied by singing"... I value sharing dance as a relationship and a presence of participation rather than a product or entertainment. I feel dance serves as a vehicle or means through which we can move to a common inspiration that does not require words or tie one to any particular belief system. This initiates a very simple but effective opportunity to restore and express a felt sense of heartfelt connection with self and world. However, such theory is not required. All that we need is to join in the dance and let ‘that which gets in the way’ fall off. Thus we simply enjoy sharing the experience of being. And in so doing we find that we see each other and the world in a different light. There are many facets to circle dancing that arise as we open to other cultures, and deepen our sense of body as an instrument of musical expression. Learning within joy is itself a delight - and far from the mindset of problem solving or crisis management. I teach and share the dances in the context of their felt qualities and in musical ways. This makes learning easy and enjoyable such that it doesn't feel like classroom ‘learning’. On rare occasion I may use a recorded music to enable me to stay in the dancing circle and support you but otherwise: I/we are musically live. There may be opportunity to join in singing and possibly in the music making too. - as long as what we offer is truly alive and inspirational for the dancers. I have made some Resources available or you may Contact me directly to find out more. If you are interested in knowing of livingcircle events or indeed inviting me to your locality please Get in touch or subscribe to my newsletter. Sharing the dance is a privilege and a delight. If anyone who wishes to join with me finds the fee more than they can afford then I am willing to receive whatever is freely given.
Thank you for reading. In Love's blessing Brian Steere - 2008 |
